‘Brewniverse’ finalist spreads cheers at Marion Holiday Park

Marion Holiday Park is finalising dates for its brewing masterclasses in 2021 following two successful trials earlier this year.

“We held our first Brewing Masterclass Experience on 7th of August … it was a bit of a trial run,” says Karen Bickle, spokesperson for Marion Holiday Park.

“The guests that came along … loved it and so we decided to run another on 7th of November with much better weather,” Karen reveals.

TAPPING INTO HIDDEN TALENT

The resort-style holiday park commenced the two-part trial, when they discovered a celebrated craft brewmaster in their midst.

“Our Brewing Masterclasses are hosted by Simon [our Maintenance Manager], who was a Coopers National Finalist for the Master of the Brewniverse competition in 2019,” says Karen.

According to Simon, it was a friend who first encouraged him to take part in the nation-wide competition.

“I’ve had a long appreciation of beer and the different flavours available out there,” Simon explains.

“A few years ago I decided to try my hand at making my own and invested in some equipment.

“A mate told me about the competition and it sounded like fun, didn’t expect to become a national finalist, that was a bit of a surprise.”

WHAT’S INVOLVED?

During the half-day event, Simon shares his craftbrewing tips in a demonstration.

“We take the group through the different grains that go into the beer making process and how it affects the taste,” Simon explains.

“As the process takes a couple of hours, we provide some tasting samples while people watch the beer continue to be made.”

Participants enjoy a meal with Simon fielding questions as the brewing process completes.

“Finally, our guests depart with a six-pack and smile on their face,” Simon explains.
