Daylesford Heritage Train Market

A diesel-powered train may be the last thing you’d expect on a grocery run but that’s what you’ll find at Daylesford’s Heritage Train Market. Here, board the beautifully-restored trains every Sunday at the Daylesford Railway Station, amid buskers, handcrafted wares and soaps and farm animals.

Weave through the Wombat Gully via the Daylesford Spa Country Railway, stopping in at Passing Clouds winery in Musk and sleepy Bullarto. Or just inspect the timber-clad carriages, dating back to the 1880s, where more than 50,000 passengers boarded the railway a year!

MARKET FUN

Browse and buy fresh local produce, garden plants and bric-a-brac at your leisure beneath the shade of towering elms. Pets on leashes are welcome here. And it’s a true farmers’ market, with all produce grown within 50 kilometres of the market stalls.

The kids will love it here, with gorgeous farm animals to pet and buskers playing on-site.

In the What’s Up Downunder clip below, Angie Hilton chats to Stuart Smithwick about the market’s success and the spectacular Heritage Railway.
