Gootchie Creek Escape opening early

In a bid to meet Queensland’s ‘backyarding’ boom, Gootchie Creek Escape caravan and camping ground is bringing forward its opening day to November, 20 2020.

Cattle farmers Nikki Cohen and Todd Mackenzie will initially welcome self-sufficient campers and caravanners with large newly-graded campsites along Gootchie Creek an hour south of Hervey Bay.

Brolgas and turtles frequent the idyllic patch spanning acreage.

“It [also] has about 50 head of cattle, bushland, a beautiful naturally spring-fed waterhole and the Goochie Creek,” Nikki explains.

Nikki and Todd have been busy restoring roads and bridges on the flat, pristine property.

GOOTCHIE CREEK ESCAPE, A LEGACY

The family runs a 3000-acre property adjacent to Gootchie Creek Escape. In fact, Nikki’s father who since passed away purchased it with the view to welcoming camping guests.

“The property was originally my dad’s. He had the property for about 7 years.

“This was something that my dad really wanted to do. He’d been a cattle farmer for years, we’re trying to follow his dream.”

GOOTCHIE CREEK ESCAPE CAMPING AND ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

Unpowered sites are available at opening with the farming family increasing camping and accommodation options in the new year.

“We are looking into power … if it is feasible at the moment, we’ll have powered sites coming in the New Year.

“We’ve got some glamping tents coming, too.

“We’re also pet-friendly.”

Gootchie Creek Escape will also complete its new amenities in January 2021, augmenting temporary facilities in place.

BUSH-STYLE CAMPING

Bush-style camping and outdoor recreation is at the heart of the Gootchie Creek Escape experience. The family wants to install a brand-new ropes course.

“We’re also wanting to do some really big swings.”

Fore in their minds is the opening, with the family hoping to mark the occasion with a big bang.
