Local artists step up for the 2020 Darwin Street Festival

Territorians will transform Darwin’s streetscapes one mural at a time, with the 2020 Darwin Street Art Festival underway.

Every fortnight till September, one local artist will unveil a new artwork, with festival favourite Jason Lee kicking off the 2020 programme.

Currently, the self-taught artist is painting a floral arrangement at Mitchell Street, drawing on his Larrakia ancestry blending contemporary and traditional styles.

Jason has worked with the festival since its inception in 2017. He was quick to lodge a submission, thrilled the event was going ahead.

LOCAL FLAIR

Typically, artists travel globally to participate in the annual event. But with international and state travel restrictions in place, organisers committed to the project with an all-local line-up instead.

Currently, locals adhering to social distancing laws are free to watch the artists in action.

Interstate tourists, meanwhile, could catch the final works underway with the Territory’s Tourism Taskforce keen to open borders as early as August 1, all going well.
