Monto Caravan and Cabin Park Renewal

How a bit of elbow grease earned friendly and arty Monto the Caravan Park they deserved

About seven years ago long-time realtors Lesley and Peter Lamond sought a new career. They didn’t decide to buy a caravan park, or move from Brisbane as a life changing event. They made a business decision: to buy Monto Caravan and Cabin Park and rejuvenate it to a standard that they would be happy to stay in.

The Lamonds took a long time and many visits to the park to make the decision to buy the park–and get to work. Trips to the tip were common early on as were trips into Monto to get new this, that and the other. The end result was a clean, well-maintained, freshlypainted park, refurbished and brought up to a pleasing standard. In essence, the Monto Caravan and Cabin Park had become the kind of caravan park that a welcoming community could truly be proud of

Lovely Locals

One key benefit of their work was joining the Kui Park Chain, whose parks must meet the standards of being clean, well-maintained, friendly and value for money before being able to join. During the search for a business, local character was another deciding factor. Monto is a wonderful town, full of people who enjoy smiling and having a chat. One of the gorgeous things about Monto is their art trail. They have the most wonderful artwork, including the mural on the wall in Cafe Delicious. And yes, the food is Delicious!

Good Sized Sites

It’s not a big park, but then it’s not small either with 27 good sized powered sites. Some are great for larger vans too. If you want unpowered there are six sites to choose from. Cabins are a major part of this park’s business, so it’s best to book ahead. They have 12 cabins, three are standard cabins, a flat at the end of the residence and two workers’ units with four rooms in each. There is a lot of lovely space in the cabin area, which also houses the swimming pool. Each night the campfire is lit and guests appear for an hour or so of chatting. It’s just a relaxed way of meeting your neighbours.

Birthday Celebrations

While we were there, Lesley celebrated her birthday which meant a birthday cake. We combined it with a BBQ and a special Fried Rice cooked to perfection by cameraman Tim Pek. When Lesley looked back at what they had done in those seven years she was really proud that they had restored the park’s reputation. As she put it “We bought this park back from unloved to loved.”

There is no doubt that they have done exactly that. Holidaying with Kui Parks? Remember to hashtag your #KuiParksAdventure on Instagram or tag them @KuiParks on Facebook.
