A resort-style pool, luxury cabins, new camp kitchen and formalised campsites are key changes slated for the 70’s-style Turtle Sands Caravan Park, adjacent Mon Repos Conservation Park.
New owners NRMA Parks and Resorts will close the park in May, aiming for a mid-year start in 2024, with new signage and glamping sites part of the plan.
More water views
Guests will have a choice of water views, including beachfront and poolside cabins and camping sites. Renovations also include a beachfront lounge area and playground.
NRMA Parks and Resorts will appeal to broader audiences introducing studio apartments and bunkhouse facilities for schools.
A haven for endangered loggerhead turtles
Adored by nature lovers, the Turtle Sands Caravan Park is ecologically significant, sharing its shores with the Bundaberg-based Conservation Park.
Each year, endangered marine loggerhead turtles nest among the dunes and rookeries. From November through to March, Rangers for the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service lead evening Mon Repos Turtle Encounters.
Guests to help preserve the nesting site
NRMA Resorts and Parks is working together with local Indigenous leaders and the QPSW on a range of eco-tourism initiatives at the park, hosted year round.
These initiatives will include interactive educational programmes and conservation experiences, where guests will work hands-on protecting the rookeries and dunes.
