Spring Swims on the Horizon for Urunga

It’s full steam ahead with the construction of a new and improved Urunga Sea Lido now underway with the naming of Queensland-based EnviroStruct Services Pty Ltd as the successful contractor of the half a million-dollar project.

Reflections Holiday Parks CEO Steve Edmonds said the Urunga community could celebrate with some early Spring swimming with the 40-metre jetty, two floating pontoons and two beach access ramps expected to be completed by mid-August.

“The original Lido was removed in 1999 and we are pleased to have secured $535,000 in funding from the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Regional Growth – Environment and Tourism Fund to provide a better facility for the residents and visitors to the area,” Mr. Edmonds said.

Fencing and signage have been erected signalling the commencement of Stage One of the project which includes construction by EnviroStruct Services from this week.

Works include:

  • A 40-metre long, 1800-wide jetty boardwalk with access directly from the grassed area adjacent to a newly-constructed beach retaining wall.
  • An attached floating pontoon with an aluminium ramp access located adjacent to the boardwalk together with stainless steel ladder access.
  • A separate floating pontoon located approximately 25 metres from the jetty boardwalk
  • Viewing platform at the end of the jetty boardwalk
  • Two beach access ramps to the beach and swimming area.

Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey said the Lido was a project eagerly anticipated by locals and tourists alike and the benefits to the region were substantial.

“I’d like to thank all the community members involved over the years in the campaign to bring our beautiful waterside town to its full potential,” Ms. Pavey said.

“The NSW Government’s more than half a million-dollar contribution to this local project was a commitment I made to Urunga and I’m very excited to see it all come to fruition.

“Attractions like the Lido are often the pride of our regions and this investment will make sure our towns shine when they are visited by hundreds of people each year.”

Mr. Edmonds said dredging work of the popular swimming area had been undertaken and he was looking forward to officially opening the new and improved Urunga Lido Pool in August.

“It has been twenty years since the original infrastructure had to be removed and we are proud to be able to bring new life to this swimming area opposite our Urunga Holiday Park,” Mr. Edmonds said.

“Working with Bellingen Shire Council to transform this facility has been instrumental to the project. Council has provided invaluable support at all stages of this project and we are looking forward to continuing our strong working relationship to further benefit the Urunga community.”

Mr. Edmonds also reminded people that the area was now a construction site and to keep clear for safety reasons.
