Surprising samples! Curious tastings on the road

Throughout Australia, farming enterprises are finding new and surprising ways to share and prepare their produce, tempting travellers near and far.

Whether it’s at a shop in town or at the farm-gate door. Here are some of our favourite delights.

BEECHWORTH HONEY, VIC/NSW

Did you know Australia has the largest collection of honeys in the world? Beechworth Honey showcases some of this diversity at its ‘honey door’.

When What’s Up Downunder visited Beechworth over the summer, Jodie Goldsworthy tempted guest hosts Greg and Sue Evans with many varieties.

Top tastes include an ironbark, blue gum and even an avocado honey! Check out our clip below!

RICH GLEN OLIVE ESTATE, VIC

Olive oil is a key component of many products used throughout the world, face-creams, soaps, oils, dressings. Who knew?

In fact, you can access an extensive collection produced locally at the Rich Glen Olive Estate in Yarrawonga’s heart at the RG Provedore.

Here taste Rich Glen Olive Estate’s award-winning dressings, including Poppy’s Favourite–Rich Glen Olive Estate’s very first!

BODALLA DAIRY SHED, NSW

Every Friday, Bodalla Dairy Shed delights children–young and old–with ice-cream tastings at the Farm Shed made from milk sourced on-site.

The family also produces a range of soft and hard cheeses sampled daily at their farm-gate dairy, which the What’s Up Downunder crew visited last year.

CATANIA FRUIT SALAD FARM, GRIFFITH, NSW

No doubt about it, farmers are an adaptable bunch, evident in Sharon and Joe Maugeri’s enterprise: the Catania Fruit Salad Farm.

Depending on the season forecast, the family harvests grapes, oranges, pears, apples and even prunes, welcoming guests in daily tours aboard a corrugated bus.

Guests are treated to a short cinema presentation before sampling conserves and wine produced all on-site.
