Budding paleontologists can dust off their diggings van-side by a trickling stream, thanks to stunning campground renovations at Thunderbird Park.
The renovations catering to caravan, camper trailer and tent campers were completed at the popular rainforest theme park this year at Tamborine Mountain.
THUNDERBIRD PARK CARAVAN PARK
Since the renovations, patrons can warm up by their own crackling fire (weather permitting) with fire-rings now at every campsite within the Gold Coast attraction.

Other upgrade highlights include three new glamping sites, a camp kitchen and laundry facilities. Plus, seven more riverside campsites suitable for caravans and small motorhomes.
The upgrade boosts caravan site numbers from 6 to 32 and tent site numbers to more than 70, up from 50. Tent sites come in a variety of sizes in a choice of power and non-powered connection.
All the caravan sites are powered and come in a choice of two sizes, up to 7x7m.
Patrons are still advised to bring in their own water.
INSPIRED BY NATURE
The caravan park-style renovations at Thunderbird Park draw inspiration from the stunning rainforest environment.
A fairy-light solar chandelier—fashioned from a branch gathered at Thunderbird Park—illuminates the central Bumble Bee dome. Within it, is the new camp kitchen, dining area, laundry, toilet and showering amenities.

Two barbecues rest upon a gorgeous timber bench opposite matt-black sink-ware set within a second timber bench.
The design of the dome minimises water wastage by funnelling rain and dew into the tanks that form part of the amenities’ walls. A second, newly-built amenities equally beautiful inside, ensures all patrons have access to facilities.
ON-SITE ACTIVITIES
There’s plenty to occupy campers and day-trippers on-site at Thunderbird Park, with canon flying and tree-top challenges suitable for adults and kids.
Tree-top challenges suitable for adults and kids
Patrons can try their hand at skirmish, hinterland horse-riding, mini golf or let the little ones just splash within mountain-fed waters at the delightful rainforest rock pools.
Enterprising kids may prefer to pan for gems or fossick for ‘Thunderbird eggs’ within the ancient volcanic soils.
Other activities include walking through rainforest, or taking in fresh mountain working up a sweat on the volleyball or half tennis court.
ACCOMMODATION SERVICES
All camping and caravanning patrons can join fellow lodgers and day-visitors at the on-site Rainforest Restaurant and Lounge Bar.
Firewood, snacks, cleaning kits, wood pizzas and light meals are available at the on-site The Terrace Kiosk.
