Travelling with kids: what to do in wet weather?

We spend meticulous hours packing, preparing and planning a family holiday away, says Elvin and Eshlyn Pal from the AdventuringPals, but if it is all rain and no shine when you get there, it can be quite disappointing and challenging to keep the children entertained. Here are a few tips to help cope with it and keep morale high.

JIGSAW PUZZLES AND BOARD GAMES

If you don’t have either then a simple game of naughts and crosses or charades can keep kids interested for some time.

COOKING

There’s nothing more satisfying than having a good old cook up. Kids love being involved and gain confidence from carrying out such tasks from the beginning to the end where the rewards are delicious!

MOVIES AND POPCORN

If you have no internet access, DVDs are the way to go. But if you have internet, streaming apps like Netflix are great.

REACH OUT TO LOVED  ONES

With internet and phone reception, you can always call and talk to your loved ones. Getting connected with family and friends is always time well spent, and with video calling it is just like they are there with you.

READING

Whether it’s self reading or reading out aloud, books can definitely end boredom and keep our little ones occupied. They don’t take a lot of space, don’t need charging and are definitely worth packing one favourite book for each child.

PLAY IN THE RAIN

Don on some gumboots and splash in those muddy puddles! Children will definitely relish and remember these moments for years to come! Enjoy the down time together, it can be in these small moments which make the memories.
